Persistence is key!

Often people say they want to Chase their goals, but eventually decide not to. It’s funny how good people are at justifying their laziness : ‘’I would like to go to gym, BUT I don’t have the money for it’’, ‘’I would like to study now, BUT I can’t concentrate right now’’! So what happens is that instead of chasing their dreams they decide to numb their passion with things like alcohol, junk food, playing videogames or even masturbation.
of course everyone enjoys above activities, but it shouldn’t be a escape from our problems. I recently read the book called ‘’off the bike’’ by Lance Armstrong which I can recommend to anyone. In the book I read a quote that really got to me.

“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, an hour, a day or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.”

This quote made me realize the mindset Lance has. You can feel sorry about yourself and wish you were different or you can actually become different! It’s a choice we make, if you decide not to chase your dreams that’s your own choice, but then don’t start to whine that your not were you want to be!

This principle works on both ways. If you want to be a professional football player don’t whine because you have to train 5 times a week. It’s the path you choice! You will get injuries, can’t party too much and you will miss a few episodes of CSI Miami!

Usually the real reasons why people don’t chase their dreams is the fear of failure, the fear of effort or the fear of rejection. I completely understand that getting out of your comfort zone is hard, especially in the beginning. However if you choose to not workout, not socialize or whatever it is you want to improve at. You won’t get uncomfortable as much, but the underlying pain of knowing that you didn’t even try will be more intense than all the possible rejections and failures combined.

‘’I’m not a failure, I’m a success because I tried’’

What works for me

The way I counter laziness and keep passionate about improving myself in any  way I can is this:
I decided long ago that if I don’t want to do something or go somewhere, but I know that going would help me improve in any way what so ever. I would go, just thinking back to all the successes I wouldn’t have had if I let my laziness and emotions control me rather than the other way around.

The second trick I would like to share with you is a trick I like to use to counter limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are insecurities that can hit you hard if you let it. A example of a limiting belief would be : ‘’I’m too small’’, ‘’I’m too shy’’ etc. Whenever a limiting belief comes around the corner I just think to myself: ‘’was there ever a time that I COULD do this’’.

Of course the answer is YES! I’m sure there was a time you could talk to strange people, could get good grades, could give a decent presentation etc. If you could do it once, it means it is inside of you!  If you managed to do it once, I’m sure you can do it again!

So for now just name two or three things you’ve been wanting to do, but excused your way out of! I hope this article gives you some ideas and motivation to change this!

 Live with passion!

  2. Totally get you. I've been putting off getting fit for years. I used to dance a lot and then I got injured and gave up completely. But the time has come. I've made the effort. 3 weeks in, and I feel awesome.

  4. @Kopite --- You can get in shape and eat McDonalds. It's the portion control that is most peoples issue. They consume 1500 calories in a meal... every meal...
