finding out what you love to do!

I haven’t been able to update this as much as I wanted to. Main reason for this was graduating, holidays and partying like a rockstar. Yesterday I found myself in a bar with some old friends, I haven´t seen most of them since at least 5 years. When I talked to one of them I noticed he didn´t seem really passionate about himself. Examples of this were his sloppy body language, talking himself down at every possibility and so on. When I asked him what he wanted to do in life, he just gave me a sheepish look. He had absolutely no idea what he loved doing. All though I felt bad for him it did give me some inspiration to write a article about how to find what you love!
Have you ever really thought about what you love? And I mean love to do, I don’t mean how much do you love money. If that’s your main motivation that’s cool, but personally I’d rather give value by really helping people. Money is great since it helps me help more people and obviously makes life easier in a lot of ways. But for me personally it isn’t my main motivation.

Skills
Interests

How does someone find out about what he loves? Two words come to mind: Skill and interest.
Deep inside you know what you love, but have you ever really thought about it well enough?
Filling this in, will be the first step of being conscious aware of finding what you love to do most.
After filling this in I would like you to ask yourself the following questions:
1)     What would I love to do on a daily basis utilizing both my skills and interests that will add significant value to people?

2)      How can I achieve this?

3)     What will happen if I don’t try this?

I hope this will give you some new motivation and if not was a interesting read!

Inspirational!

i decided to post some of the clips that made an impact on me and encouraged me to keep fighting for my dreams. i hope they have a similair effect on you!

#1

Steve jobs Speech at Stanford

this speech learned me to trust myself and to stop worying about things that really are irrelevant if you look at it logically. We will die anyway and therefore need to stop pretending we have something too lose! there´s not excuse to not follow your dreams

“You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” - Steve Jobs

#2 For demonstrating the power of will.

HUNA

Time for a new article! I recently found out about HUNA which is a ideology which originates from Hawaii. It’s a very simple, but still interesting ideology based on 7 principles.

1. IKE - our ideas create our reality.
2. KALA - there are no limits.
3. MAKIA - energy flows where attention goes.
4. MANAWA - now is the moment of power.
5. ALOHA - to love is to be happy with.
6. MANA - all power comes from within.
7. PONO - effectiveness is the measure of truth.

Now let’s look a bit deeper at my interpretation of these principles

1. IKE - our ideas create our reality.

Have you heard of the term seeing is believing? It’s crap,  how often do beautiful girls tell themselves they look fat, ugly or whatever.. The scary part is they usually really believe they are fat or ugly, which usually results in anorexia ore bulimia. Believing is seeing would be a more accurate description. People who believe they are beautiful will automaticly be more attractive.

2. KALA - there are no limits.

Obviously there are some limits, for example I can’t fly like superman. I can however fly in a plane. We shouldn’t let our limiting beliefs define us. If you tried and failed you’re in my opinion a success because you tried! Keep failing, keep struggling and you will succeed!

3.
MAKIA - energy flows where attention goes.

Some people keep failing, keep struggling and still don’t succeed. This usually means you either didn’t take full advantage of the failures (making them into learn experiences) or they kept focusing on too much, pick just one or two goals rather than 100 and really work hard for them! If you focus your attention on too much goals, you won’t get the results you want. Set priorities!

4.
MANAWA - now is the moment of power.

The only moment we have is right now.
Don’t be trapped putting everything off , cause eventually you will miss out on a lot of things. You’ll never know just what opportunities you missed out on cause of this!

5. ALOHA - to love is to be happy with.

Try to love everyone, even the people you don’t really like. Simply cause disliking or hating people will give them power over you, they control how you think, they control how you feel! What other people say about you tells them more about themselves than it really does about you. If your above it, they can’t hurt you!

6. MANA - all power comes from within.

Don’t let outer forces control you.
Take responsibility for yourself, your goals, your life and so on! Show what your worth, be willing to take risks and always keep your head up high!

7. PONO - effectiveness is the measure of truth.

Don’t be a fly repeatedly flying against the window, not realizing its closed. If something works use it, if it doesn’t, stop it and try something else.

ALOHA, live with passion

Are you willing to fail?

Most people who have been successful in their life are so, because they are prepared to put themselves in uncomfortable situations and give themselves permission to fail. By doing this they are allowing themselves to grow. It’s quite sad how the society appears to be looking at failure these days. Most people use the possibility of failure as an excuse not to go through with something. While in reality even if your failing, at least your trying and learning.
If you stop looking at failure as a bad thing you can look at it more positive. Having failed at something just means that your now consciously aware that you’re doing something wrong. You can’t expect to do the same things over and over again and get different results. If you keep learning and changing your methods until you find out what works and what
doesn’t work. You will eventually succeed.

We have all failed in life at points, but we seem to put too much pressure on this aspect of our life. If we fail to much we tend to give up, we forget our passions and our goals. Sometimes we even start to label ourselves as victims. Don’t be one of those people, if your frustrated just realize that even if your failing. Your still one of the few people who are willing to improve! You could have just stayed inside your comfort zone all the time, wondering why the results you wanted aren’t coming.

Another reason why people don’t chase their dreams as much is the fast fix society we live in. ‘’I don’t want to take guitar lessons, I want to take a magic pill and be the best guitarist right away’’.
surely it would be awesome if things were like the movie ‘’The matrix’’ ,where Neo just downloaded the skills he needed in his head. However that’s not how the world works , and besides how fulfilling would that be if you would just get those skills, rather than earning them. Wouldn’t it be more satisfying if you results would come from showing a 200% commitment to your goals, while working your ass off.

So realistically spoken, how opener you are to failure, the more willing you are to put yourself in the unknown and face your fears.

Cynic and labels

Often I caught myself making fun of things for no reason. Although I tell myself I have all the reason in the world to! Sadly this has an addicting taste to it, it’s easy to just kick against everything! On this occasions I fool myself into thinking I’m too cool to make an effort or to care.  Sadly this attitude also made me miss out on a lot of things. The reality was that I often missed out on a lot of great experiences due to not giving it a chance! Think about it, if you never build, but just destroy people will eventually get sick of you. This is why I try to give most (non criminal, extremist or twisted) people and activities a change rather than already sticking a permanent label on it/them.

The second part is about labeling, unconsciously we label everything. If we see a baby it’s sweet, but in reality it’s just a baby, we just interoperate the cuteness factor. We hear about war and we find it horrible, but if you’re a oppressed civilian you probably thank whatever/you/believe/in on your knees for the possibility of a revolution.  Did you know that some old native American tribes didn’t even had words for things like ‘’racism, war or torture’’ they just didn’t exist within their tribe culture! Sadly for them, they found out that not everyone shared their principle’s the hard way.

The more convinced of our own right, the more dangerous we are. We find ways to confirm our beliefs everywhere we go. We read the articles that agree with our view, we miss interoperate what we want to miss interoperate and so on. Another great example of this was shown recently when some heavy religious people where asked their opinion about the child molest scandals. Most of them responded with ‘’Yes, it’s horrible, this is so damaging for the church’’. They didn’t say they were sorry for the victims or that these priest should be punished. The only thing that was horrible, seemed to be the fact the priests got caught.

Of course these kind of people were quite extreme and I’m sure most people feel sympathy for the victims. The point I want to make however is to stay open minded and don’t make the mistake to be trapped by dogma which is living some one else his life. Keep developing your own beliefs and interests and don’t judge a book by its cover.

Fear

‘’The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls –Elizabeth Cady Stanton’’

Who isn’t aware of the feeling of fear when trying something new. The sometimes numbing fear experienced when climbing out of your comfort zone.  We all want to get rid of the fear, but what if the fear will never go away completely. Does this mean we need to stop facing our fears all together and set up for a life of disappointment? Obviously that isn’t going to make anyone happy, but what if we would decide to not look at  fear as our arch enemy. If we can manage to just accept the fear, the fear will decrease. The more you try to resist the fear, the more intense it will become.

If you would like to get a better understanding about this topic I would recommend the book ‘’Feel the fear and do it anyway’’ by Sussan Jeffers. Here are 5 quotes to get a better understanding where she’s coming from:

-      The fear will never go away as long as I’m growing
-      The only way to decrease fear is by facing it head on
-      The only way to feel better about myself is to face fear head on
-      I’m not the only one feeling fear when on unknown territory , but so does everyone else
-      Pushing through the fear is way less painful then the sense of helplessness on the long term if you don’t.

“Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing.”

Persistence is key!

Often people say they want to Chase their goals, but eventually decide not to. It’s funny how good people are at justifying their laziness : ‘’I would like to go to gym, BUT I don’t have the money for it’’, ‘’I would like to study now, BUT I can’t concentrate right now’’! So what happens is that instead of chasing their dreams they decide to numb their passion with things like alcohol, junk food, playing videogames or even masturbation.
of course everyone enjoys above activities, but it shouldn’t be a escape from our problems. I recently read the book called ‘’off the bike’’ by Lance Armstrong which I can recommend to anyone. In the book I read a quote that really got to me.

“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, an hour, a day or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.”

This quote made me realize the mindset Lance has. You can feel sorry about yourself and wish you were different or you can actually become different! It’s a choice we make, if you decide not to chase your dreams that’s your own choice, but then don’t start to whine that your not were you want to be!

This principle works on both ways. If you want to be a professional football player don’t whine because you have to train 5 times a week. It’s the path you choice! You will get injuries, can’t party too much and you will miss a few episodes of CSI Miami!

Usually the real reasons why people don’t chase their dreams is the fear of failure, the fear of effort or the fear of rejection. I completely understand that getting out of your comfort zone is hard, especially in the beginning. However if you choose to not workout, not socialize or whatever it is you want to improve at. You won’t get uncomfortable as much, but the underlying pain of knowing that you didn’t even try will be more intense than all the possible rejections and failures combined.

‘’I’m not a failure, I’m a success because I tried’’

What works for me

The way I counter laziness and keep passionate about improving myself in any  way I can is this:
I decided long ago that if I don’t want to do something or go somewhere, but I know that going would help me improve in any way what so ever. I would go, just thinking back to all the successes I wouldn’t have had if I let my laziness and emotions control me rather than the other way around.

The second trick I would like to share with you is a trick I like to use to counter limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are insecurities that can hit you hard if you let it. A example of a limiting belief would be : ‘’I’m too small’’, ‘’I’m too shy’’ etc. Whenever a limiting belief comes around the corner I just think to myself: ‘’was there ever a time that I COULD do this’’.

Of course the answer is YES! I’m sure there was a time you could talk to strange people, could get good grades, could give a decent presentation etc. If you could do it once, it means it is inside of you!  If you managed to do it once, I’m sure you can do it again!

So for now just name two or three things you’ve been wanting to do, but excused your way out of! I hope this article gives you some ideas and motivation to change this!

 Live with passion!
